Founded in 1931 in Louisville, KY, Garrett-Stotz Company is an independent, full-service insurance agency that specialized in insurance and surety bonds for the construction industry.

Brief History

Over 80 years ago, Fred M. Garrett, Sr. formed an insurance business in Louisville, Kentucky that specialized in serving the bonding and insurance needs of his contractors. In time he was joined by his son, Fred M. Garrett, Jr. and the business continued to grow. In 1966, the company was incorporated as Garrett-Stotz Company. Today Garrett-Stotz Company offers a wide array of insurance products.

Company Timeline

1931

Fred Garrett Sr. establishes the Garrett Insurance Agency, specializing in bonds and insurance for the construction industry

1958

Fred Garrett Jr. joins the agency.

1966

The agency is incorporated under Garrett-Stotz Company after Fred’s son-in-law William Stotz joins the agency in the late 50s.

1968

Fred’s close friend, William Kantlehner Jr., joins the agency.

1981

Fred and William’s sons – Steve Garrett & Bill Kantlehner join the agency with a continued focus on surety and construction insurance.

1986

Tom Mitchell joins the agency after working for Aetna as a bond underwriter.

2001

Jeff Brown joins the agency with 30+ years in the Surety industry. A second office location is opened in Indianapolis, IN managed by Robert Stimpson.

2005

Neal Bonding Agency is acquired and Garrett-Stotz Company now has over 300 construction clients in the region.

2006

Garrett-Stotz Company merges with Mucci Insurance Group, an all-lines agency that broadened the Garrett-Stotz book into personal lines and benefits. The agency now has 26 employees and $30 million in annual premium.

2007

Maddox Insurance Services is acquired. Partner Robert Stimpson passes away.

2009

The home office is moved to Alliant Avenue

2010

Fisher Insurance Services is acquired, bringing extensive knowledge of the Oil & Gas sector.

2014

Garrett-Stotz Company currently has 49 employees and annual premium has surpassed $50 million.
